Now this was such a special event and not suprisingly from Annabel Other
aka The Bristol Art Librarian.
The Shed summit conisisted of architects, shed owners, peformers, editors,
and those who just knew that this would be oh so special. It was so
oh so special that its difficult to put into words. Imagine Shed Doctors,
a TV programme that goes rounds to peoples places and solves their shd
problems and builds them for you, now imagine that it's not on TV but
imagine it instead live infront of your eyes in the gardens of self
confessed hippy retreat The Yarner Trust in North Devon. By the end
of the weekend their was a topping out ceremony with a shed built out
of crates etc. Michael Morrison talked about his time in the Antartica
and Shakletons and Scotts sheds and oh how we marvelled at all the things
left in place, The whale blubber from when the discovery teams got stuck
there, the bits of everyday life left in place, but in The South Pole.
Michael talking about being stuck camping out in a blizzard and playing
games with his companions, oh and the penguins.
Sean Topham talked about inflatable buildings and the space age batchelor
phononema, which we all know from Stereolabs "Space Age Batchelor
Pad Music". Cause The Space age batchelors had inflateables you
know. He also talked about expanded cinema and afterwards gave me a
few links in the right direction that I wanted to pass onto Hogge. All
weekend I kept on thinking Hogge would love this, Kayle and Heath would
love this, Lou would love this, My Dad would love this.
The funniest and Most hilarious thing was walking down to The Sheds
of Welcombe with Wrights and Sights, There were about20 of us doing
this walk around the Shed thing and the englash ecentrics were all there,
We came to one shed. Mr and Mrs whoever were lunching at their secluded
campsite and then came along us lot and so we wanted to introcuce our
portable shed
to their shed. Later we got to the sea, People took their shoes and
socks off and my job was to help introduce the shed to the sea. Mr holiday
maker came up to me eagerly and enquired what Livestock we had in the
box ? What exactly were we releasing into the sea. i thought that Tom
Marsmans performance was amazing with his swallowing rose petals and
offering fruit and veg from his allotment (where he is performing this
summer) and being very Derek Jarman esque by sitting on top of a shed
and waving a flower decorated flag.
beautiful.
The Shed also seemed to be a feminist Icon, because their were loads
of ladies their and Louise Short taled about The Postmodern Shed.
I'm
still not that much into Sheds, but can relate to them. Tonight as I
Channi cooked us dinner, I acted like the Husband and wet off into my
own world, but it wernt a shed.
